Infrastructure Equipment Leasing (IIEL)
was established in 1999, after the idea was
suggested by the World Bank in 1998. as an
equipment pool, in that it would rent out
equipment and provide value added services
to the various users of equipment engaged in
development of infrastructure. The equipment
pool rent out equipment owned by it and
takes deposits from various manufacturers
and owners of equipment to various users.
The equipment pool also provides services
like trained operators, repairs and
maintenance of equipment, spare parts and
advice on financing options.
IIEL,
was established in response to the
government of India’s major thrust on
infrastructure development. According to GOI
estimates approximately USD 200 billion will
be required over the next seven to ten years
for basic infrastructure projects. Given
that twenty percent of the cost of such
projects is associated with the required
equipment, it is expected that the demand
for infrastructure would increase
substantially.
