The Amarnath cave shrine, dedicated to Shiva, contains an ice stalagmite that is worshipped as Shiva’s lingam by devotes. The cave is said to be more than 5,000 years old. It is situated in the Himalayas, at an altitude of 3,888 m (12,756 ft), about 141 km (88 miles) from Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
