In 2007, KAMAZ decided to enter India’s automobile market, one of the largest and fastest developing markets not only in Asia but also in the world. After studying the market positions and resources of its potential partners, KAMAZ partnered with the Vectra Group of Companies due to its production base, broad experience in India’s automobile market, and adequate financial resources for the planned investments under the joint venture. In March 2009, the partners signed the memorandum of understanding and for the creation of the KAMAZ VECTRA MOTORS LIMITED JV, with a capacity of 5,000 vehicles per year
Under the JV, the partners established a production and engineering centre for KAMAZ’s business development in the left-hand traffic countries of Asia Pacific and Africa. This centre will develop a new products taking into account the needs and preferences of local customers and will localize vehicle production. In the initial stage of the JV, it planned to assemble several models of vehicles equipped with side platforms and construction dumpers based on the KAMAZ-6540 chassis with right-hand steering wheels, as well as the production of KAMAZ-5460 long-haul tractors. |
