VITS executed successfully a technical documentation project for a European client. All the formats were prepared keeping ISO requirements in view with regards to traceability and revisions etc. All these were utilized to achieve the certification as per ISO 9001:2008 during the 2nd quarter of 2010.

Planning and Preparation:
Apart from project planning and execution to address the customer needs, VITS concurrently defined a Quality Policy, Quality Objectives and Quality Management System (QMS) which were strictly followed during the project execution. An external ISO consultant was hired for finer guidance and conducting the internal audit. One of the senior team members was appointed as the Management Representative (MR) to coordinate and manage all the efforts towards ISO certification during this period, utilizing the experience gained during the project execution.

Implementation:
Thereafter the Quality Manual, Procedures, Processes and Templates for all departments in VITS in-line with ISO 9001:2008 Standard were defined and documented.
VITS then implemented the documented procedures, processes and templates of ISO for all departments and supplemented the existing records with additional documents. An internal audit by the ISO consultant was followed by a Management Review Meeting (MRM) in May 2010. “ISO Awareness Program” conducted by the consultant was successfully completed by all employees.

ISO 9001: 2008 Certification Audit:
VITS chose TÜV SÜD South Asia (a subsidiary of TÜV SÜD Group, Germany) one of the best certification agencies in the world for the certification audit. The agency conducted the certification audit in two stages i.e. Stage 1 and Stage 2.
During Stage 1 audit conducted on 18 May 2010, TUV SUD auditors checked the Scope of certification and general implementation of ISO 9001:2008. They had no major observations. However, due to prior commitment of the auditors, stage 2 audit could not be scheduled earlier.
TUV SUD auditors conducted the stage 2 audit on 03 Jun 2010, wherein an in-depth check of all the processes, procedures, records and documents of all the departments of VITS was completed. As in the first stage they had no major observations and were satisfied with all the documentation and implementation. With two minor Non-conformances (NCs) they recommended VITS, Bangalore for ISO 9001:2008 Certification on the same day.
The two minor NCs were closed and submitted to TUV SUD on 07 Jun 2010 for issue of the ISO certificate. This certificate will be valid for three years from the date of issue.
